Russia launched attacks in to Kyiv Thursday morning, where drone and missile strikes shook Ukraine’s captial. About 50,000 people are sheltered in subway stations after air raid warnings were issued in Ukraine. The attacks killed 20 civilians, and injuring many more.
The Russian Defense Ministry in their statement, said that the strikes were in response to Ukraine’s long-range strikes on oil production and energy facilities, causing fuel shortage and applying pressure on President Vladimir Putin. Ukraine has been hammering these sites in what Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky call’s a 40-day blitz
The Russian president made comments in an interview with a state TV reporter, detailing the extent of the effects of the Ukrainian strikes on his country’s oil, saying Russia would need to import more fuel, and speed up repairs on affected oil facilities. “All damaged facilities are being restored quite quickly, and the issues that arise are not critical,” he said. In the interview, he also spoke on increasing air defense capacity to counter Ukraine’s mid-long range attack capability.
