Graham Planter (D-Maine.) said “We are taking time to reflect on our best path forward,” on Monday in a video posted on social media. In the video he denied allegations from a Politico report, alleging he forced a woman to have sex with him.
41-year-old Jenny Racicot, told Politico in three interviews spanning two weeks, the details of her allegation against Platner. In the report, Politico stated it reviewed documents between Racicot and her therapist.
Platner is looking to capture a seat that is key for Democrats to win majority control of the senate. He did not make clear if he was considering suspending his campaign or dropping out. Saber News reached out for a comment to the office of Maine Gov. Janet Mills, who was also running for that seat but suspended her campaign earlier this year, did not immediately respond.
Kirsten Gillibrand, the chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, joined by Chuck Schumer said “Graham Planter needs to immediately withdraw as the Democratic nominee for senate and allow Maine Democrats the opportunity to choose a new candidate who can defeat Susan Collins,” in a joint statement.
