U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) began a new series of strikes against Iran on Tuesday, hitting over 80 targets.
“The U.S. strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz.” CENTCOM posted on X on Tuesday.
U.S. forces struck Iranian multiple defense systems, anti ship missile capabilities, and “more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats.” to “degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor.”
Iran had attacked three Marshall Island-flagged commercial vessels, the strikes were in response to those attacks.
Both sides have blamed each other for previously violating agreements from the MoU. Iran had directed all shipping to follow their map for a “safe route” for ships to transit the strait, the route is closer to Iran’s coast and marks a section of Omani territory as a “restricted zone.” Iranian television reported that ships had ignored warnings to change direction.
President Donald Trump threatened to attack Iran again on Wednesday at a NATO summit. “I’ll give a little warning: We’re going to hit them hard tonight,” Trump said, speaking to reporters.
